The next meeting of the editors Nikki Quismondo, Marie J. Ross, and Marjorie Banks will be October 24th. I'll join them to do some assistance. If you'd like me to forward any notes to the editors please let me know before then if possible to add them to discussion. Afterward we will prepare to contact contributors about the works we'd like to use and formalities.

While Nikki is working on
Moon Mist Valley Poetry and Art Anthology,
I'm working on a collected works of my poetry,
and, eventually, an anthology of poetry and art that is looking for submissions.
For my collected works the title will be
"Stupid Door Won't Stay Put (2011)"
as the expected release date will be in 2011.
The anthology of poetry and art that I'm editing, however, will need a title still.
So I'm wondering what everyone things of the title for the anth…

Hi poets and artists.
I've complied a list of the poems which previously appeared in poetsespresso newsletter in the .pdf file linked
when you click on this text. It's in .pdf format because:
1.) most people have adobe reader and can view it and therefore
2.) can print it out to have on file for reference in a printer-friendly form…

Here it is! When you print it out be sure to go to settings, Advanced, and check the box that says use Black Ink Only! Otherwise it will look an unnatural color, since this was made for greyscale.
July 2009 issue (which was the June-July 2009 issue) will be in print soon as well, for now you may view or print from the file here. Roger E. Naylor helped copy edit it.…

poetsespresso newsletter will now be:
--only 250 copies per issue
--black and white only
--published independently by Donald R. Anderson, no longer under the Writers' Guild wing.
Special thanks to Deena Heath for her making the July issue (late June-July issue) possible with her sponsorship.
It should go to print on Monday.

I suggest, since most of us here are writers or connected with such, that we connect with other writers and artists and make collaborations, and learn what they have learned so that we expand our horizons.
It doesn't hurt to make friends here and chat, make small talk, and discover our interests... there might be a poem in it, or a painting, or a book, etc.
It does kind of hurt to just let this opportunity to connect slide by!

I'm attaching
HowToSelfPublish_book_May14_2009.pdf the file of the first "working" draft of the zine series / paperback, "How To Self-Publish," which will provide a resource to inspire others to express themselves in these trying times for freedom of speech, and freedom in general.
And here…

Hi everyone,
The cost of poetsespresso is $150+ each issue when done through the Writers' Guild.
I hope I can get the same price if I have to print it on my own.
Unfortunately as of the end of this semester after the May issue of Artifact, the Writers' Guild will not have enough to cover another issue of poetsespresso newsletter or Artifact.
That means if I want to keep poetsespresso, the print version, going, I will have to do one of the following:
1. Sell four page-size advertisements in…

I have very helpful friends that might be able to implement the ideas they pass to me in their own way, but here's the reasons why two cool ideas they passed to me won't work
for me in particular.
Idea #1:
Charge a $5 reading fee for submissions and give feedback. To cover the publication costs and to shape future submissions to let them know what it is I like and need for the publication so they can better suit my needs.
Reasons why it won't work
for me:
a. The handling of mon…

Nikki Quismondo has volunteered to be the new editor of
Moon Mist Valley, poetry and art anthology.
She may have some assistance from others in certain areas,
such as Marjorie Banks may be involved, she has also volunteered to get involved.
I (Donald R. Anderson) will be organizing the submissions received and forwarding them ALL TOGETHER
to Nikki for consideration, collectively, and then will forward her and her only the contact info necessary
to confirm submissions.
The works…

Hi Ziners, Self-Publishers, etc.,
I'm looking for contributors of content
on the ins and outs to those new
to self-publishing.
The zine will be text and illustration,
in fact it will be a zine for each section
of the table of contents below, or a zine series
on "How to Self-Publish."
If you want to contribute content (with due credit)
then let me know and then send it in when ready,
you can also add aspects not covered if you wish.
When the zine series is complete and printed and sent,
I also…

I know many will be disappointed by the ending of Moon Mist Valley
as the theme for our venture for another theme, but
I want now to go with the title:
"Are you happy?" she said.
As a nod to Fahrenheit 451 and the theme of thought provoking poetry
that deals with important issues in persuasive manners
of reaching out to sensibilities instead of offending them.
Edit (06/14/2009) : due to the complexity of receiving permissions from the Bradburys I am looking for an original title for…

I find it difficult to choose between the best of poems,
and also difficult to choose between so many friends,
who seem to think their work must deserve the honor,
either by being friends of me or that their work must
be better than the hundred other people who send me
stuff from the Poet's Market book listing of our publication.
So I'm stating for the purposes of clarification.
I have room to publish roughly one out of every twenty poems
that are sent, and the number of submissions is increasi…

Do grammar / punctuation / spelling mistakes tend to throw everything suddenly into a chaotic "change-that-now!" priority? Then I must be an editor.

I learned through trial and error again what I should have remembered from last time that I was formatting a book cover for lulu. That in order to format a book cover at the exact point dimensions necessary, to save it at a size uploadable in a reasonable time period on dialup, and to make it the right page orientation, I must: work with the final version in InDesign, print with PDFredirect, and under "Setup" in options at that point, use "custom" size, and landscape.

First off, we thought we didn't have enough submissions, and did a mass email requesting submissions. Then we got tons of submissions, mostly poetry with some short story, art, and photos. There was more than enough of poetry and short story, even after Erica had sent me the best of them.
Then I put together the draft. Basically since this issue it was only me working on it with the Content being helped with selection by Erica and Johnathan, it took quite a lot of hours of work and I ended up d…
